We’re very pleased to share this
walking route (3.6 miles) with our friends – lovers of wine, nature, and
Priorat picturesque slopes, – the vine-and-
wine tour that starts in our
winery in an old quarter of
Gratallops, with virtually all town restaurants and hotels being at hand, and takes you as far as the Les Planes estate overlooking the southern
DOQ Priorat domains and the villages of El Lloar and Bellmunt del
Priorat.
On this walking route, you will cross
grapevine, olive and almond tree plantations, groves of oaks, poplars and pines, and moors full of aromatic herbs, asparaguses or blackberries... What are the main points of interest that you will discover?
1. Outset point:
DEVINSSI WINERY. Get an insight into the artisanal wine making. Nearly everything is worked by hand and the annual output is averaging 10,000 bottles, which allows for strict quality control of our designer wine. The winery tour is guided by our winery keeper Sergi Romero or the founder of the business and wine-designer Josep Roca.
2. Finca Rocapoll (Rocapoll Estate). It’s a very old sloping vineyard planted over five decades ago. The Carignan vines’ trunks take curious twisted forms and rise from between pebbles of
llicorella (
slate stone or bluestone). Crops from these plants play the sole and exclusive role in making
Rocapoll,
Vi de la Vila de
Gratallops (village wine). Once you’re on the very top of the plot, you can enjoy the spectacular
Priorat winescape stretching to the steep, cliffy skyline of the
Montsant Range and Llangossets Range. As well, you can have a glass of
cava with some local snacks in our cosy hut or grab a bite around the outdoor table.
3. Finca Les Planes (Les Planes Estate). This plot brings together several different areas. On its very top, stroll through a heath full of aromatic herbs and sniff their balmy scents. We keep it up untouched on purpose to take leisurely walks at any time of the year. Straight below the road, you’ll find some Grenache
terrasses (terraces, large steps) and
costers (slopes). Next, a couple of Cabernet patches enjoying ample and quite close views of El Lloar, Bellmunt del
Priorat , and, a bit further to the north,
Gratallops. AIt’s here that we find the Il•lia Tree, a dry almond tree raising its bent branches above the vineyards.
4. The final bends of the circuit lie within the
Gratallops, nucleus, where you can come by the
DEVINSSI WINERY outlet offering wines and local products. And indulge in some wine tasting, too!
